2015 Recipient
Dino Vrynios
For as long as I can remember, I have asked questions.
From a young age I was eager to understand why and how the world worked, and if ever unsatisfied with the answer would set about exploring alternate possibilities.
This trait instilled in me a disposition to solve problems creatively and ultimately I found my calling in Architecture.
Today, I am an Architect at Grieve Gillett Dimitty Andersen Architects (GGDAA) where my experience, creativity and passion have been embraced and the conditions are right for me to achieve the ambitious goals I set for myself.
In addition to my work in practice, I am a passionate advocate for the profession as well as the wider design community. I contribute in a number of roles as a SA Chapter Councillor of the AIA, chairing or assisting committees, groups and initiatives, as well as taking on the responsibility of Creative Director of the Festival of Architecture and Design.
I also served as the 2014 State Architecture Awards Taskforce Chair and championed the city wide #ADLarchigram initiative, contributed articles for publication in PLACE and InDaily, featured as a guest commentator on local radio show The PLAN and mentored graduates as Program Manager of the Keith Neighbour Study Group.
I have set myself on a clear trajectory to have an impact as a professional artist within my craft and as a leader within the community. In the short term, my goals are geared towards an intensive phase of personal development.
However, a gap exists that can only be addressed through study and investigation of current best practice abroad and as such I have identified the Jack Hobbs McConnell Travelling Fellowship as an excellent opportunity to develop a specialised expertise that cannot be acquired locally.
To spend time interstate and overseas gaining expertise and knowledge in an emerging specialised field would fast track my career development and provide me with a key point of difference within the profession, establishing me as a valuable asset to any organisation I work with.
